A Message from Our Chairman

I am honored to be a part of this year’s Heart of Gold Ball celebration and to support the life-saving work of the American Heart Association (AHA). The Heart of Gold Ball is the culmination of a year-long effort to raise around $1 million for the American Heart Association.  These funds are utilized in our community for educational programs and research focused on childhood obesity and congenital heart defects, as well as the AHA mission – to build healthier lives free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.

One crucial area of focus for the American Heart Association, and an issue that is very important to me, is children’s health and the childhood obesity epidemic.  It is imperative that we care for our future generations, especially those children who do not have access to nutritious food and safe community parks and centers in which to play.

The number of obese and overweight children has now climbed to 30 percent, a troubling trend that could signal decades of weight-related health problems, such as cancer, diabetes, and heart disease, as these children become adults. Overall, two-thirds of American adults are now obese or overweight.

I hope you will assist us in our efforts to wipe out cardiovascular diseases and stroke and join us on May 18, 2013 for the Heart of Gold Ball.
